My purpose is to live a life that makes my 8-year-old self and my 80-year-old self proud at the same time.
I want to preserve the wonder, imagination, courage, and belief that anything is possible that defined me as a child, while honoring the wisdom, peace, perspective, and love I imagine will matter most at the end of my life.
When I face difficult decisions, I try to stand between those two versions of myself. My 8-year-old self reminds me to dream bigger than logic says I should. My 80-year-old self reminds me that no achievement is worth sacrificing my integrity, my relationships, or my ability to sleep peacefully at night.
Everything else is secondary.
If I can build a life that earns the admiration of both, I will consider it a life well lived.
